Its name originated from Amnam-ri, Saha-myeon, Dongrae-gun. In a document, the Chinese character of Am used double meaning as rock and dark. Thus it is thought that its name originated from southern part of Ami-gol.

Mojipo is also called 'Mochipo', 'Mojitgae'. Its name was given because there were many young mullets, 'Mojji' and it was written as 'Mojipo' in chinese character. Songdo town is derived from the fact that there was a lot of pine trees. The formation period of Songdo is unknown. As Songdo beach was opened as the first beach in South Korea, it was developed by Japanese and became a popular tourist attraction. In Korean Marine magazine of 1910, there were 89 local houses and it seemed that they worked in the fishing industry.
