On Jan. 24, 2022, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups designated Seo-gu, Busan as a special medical tourism district in
recognition of its excellent advanced medical infrastructure, which includes three university hospitals and one
general hospital, as well as various wellness tourist destinations that embrace nature.
The Seogu Global High Medi-hub Special Zone, as a major specialized project, promotes attracting foreign patients with
a focus on severe illness treatment and providing wellness tourism services in association to this. The District is
also attracting various medical research companies through the creation of a medical R&D industrial cluster utilizing
university hospitals’ research capabilities, in expectation that medical tourism industry will become a major business
in Seo-gu in the future.
