The reservoir was built in 1900. A 50 meter-long, 20 meter-high stone bank runs across the reservoir. The water surface was about 70 meters in length.
There are two reservoirs each found in Gudeok Camping Site and Daesin Park that had been built around the same time. All three water sources flowed into a water purification plant just below Dong-A University Gudeok Campus. Water was then stored in the distributing reservoir in Daecheong-dong until it was distributed to over 10,000 residents in Jung-gu and Seo-gu.
The stone bank was destroyed by a downpour on September 14, 1972. Sixty residents died, 15 went missing, and 48 were injured as a result of the tragic incident.
The reservoir was restored after the disaster, but it vanished without a trace when Gudeok Tunnel construction began in 1981.

Gudeok Reservoir had a production capacity of 2,000㎥ of water a day, and is recorded as the country’s oldest modern water supply facility to date.
