Ancient Tombs in Chojang-dong

Ancient Tombs in Chojang-dong

This tomb is a small pit-style stone burial chamber perched on the northeast ridge of Cheonmasan Mountain about 50 to 60 meters above sea level. The style of the tomb is similar to tombs found in Yean-ri of Gimhae and Danggam-dong of Busan.
The area around the pit-tomb is densely populated with homes that look down at South Port. There are no traces of other relics to be found but since small burial sites tend to be found in clusters, it is likely that there are other sites to be found. Nine earthenware relics of Silla including a reddish-brown pot, lidded goblet, and long-neck jar were discovered piled against the southern stone wall of the pit-tomb.

Location

38, Chojang-dong 3(sam)-ga, Seo-gu, about 10 meters south of Sanbok Road that passes Chojang Middle School. The tomb was found on June 10, 1991 when Sin Seong-beom, resident of 38, Chojang-dong, Seo-gu, found the site while installing a septic tank for his home. Officials from Busan Museum came to investigate and collect the relics.
