The Provisional Capital Memorial Hall is located in a quiet neighborhood since the former President Lee Seungman used it as his official residence during the Korea War when Busan was the Provisional Capital. Gyeongsangnam-do provincial government building moved to Busan-bu Bumin-dong from Gyeongnam Jinju on April 17th 1925. After that, official residence of Gyeongsangnam-do was built in Bumindong on August 1926. Since then, it was used as official residence until the former President Lee seungman used it as his official residence during the war as Busan became the Provisional Capital after August 8 1950. However, the Government came back to Seoul on September 28, as Seoul was regained. But Busan became the Provisional Capital on January 4, 1951, and took its role as the Provisional Capital for the Government until the ceasefire agreement was signed on July 27 1953. As Busan became a city under the direct control of the central government in 1963, Gyeongsangnam-do provincial government building moved to Changwon on July 1983. The provincial government building became used by Busan District Court and Busan Public Prosecutor's office. The governor office of Gyeongsangnam-do became under control of Busan City since it was assigned as Provisional Capital Memorial Hall on June 25, 1984. It exhibits 152 collections of Busan Provisional Capital. After then to commemorate the 44th anniversary of the Korean war, it was newly reopened on June 25 1997 as the place where locals can learn about the Korean War and the meaning of Busan as the Provisional Capital. It became an important place of education for children, students and tourists to remember the pain and tragedy of the Korean War.
