Take part in Busan Mackerel Festival on the last week of October

Mackerel became the official fish of Busan in July 2011. The festival began in celebration of this event. Now, Busan Mackerel Festival is Korea’s one and only fishery themed culture festival. The event has become very popular despite its short history.
Fishery companies get to promote their products while visitors get to learn more about mackerel, foods that can be made with mackerel, and participate in various activities during the festival. This helps give the fishery industry a boost and provides entertainment for the residents and tourists. Busan Mackerel Festival is always well-planned and promoted, which is one of the reasons why it has grown into one of Busan’s favorite festivals.

520,000 people visited the 5th Busan Mackerel Festival in 2012; it is estimated to have generated approximately KRW 9.7 billion and has given the local economy a great boost.

The steering committee has plenty of experience organizing events, always offering an array of interesting activities, themed exhibitions, and promotional expos that are true to the purpose of the festival. Visitors can get in touch with quality fishery companies, learn new ways to prepare mackerel, and even compete in a cooking contest to showcase a new recipe. The festival is widely promoted on local broadcasting stations such as KNN, MBC, and KBS as well as newspapers and other forms of advertisements, attracting tourists from around the nation. The entire stretch of Songdo Beach is utilized to accommodate the traffic.

Busan Mackerel Festival is expected to make an international impact as Korea’s one and only fishery-related festival.
