Daejeong Park

Daejeong Park

In the past, a mouth of Bosu stream flowing to the sea was surrounded with a gravelly field and swamp area and the beach at this time of period was called Buminho. The area from Chungmu-dong to the current Seo-gu office was a low hill and the hill was flattened to establish Daejeong Park after Japanese Occupation in 1910. The name of Daejeong is derived from the emperor of Japan. The park was completed in 1918 and it was the biggest square and sport complex at that time in Busan. During the Japanese Occupation it was used to hold various events and during the end of the Japanese Occupation, it became the base for Japanese military to invade China. After Independence of Korea, it became Chungmu-dong Square and held many events. During the Korean War, since the U.S army was using Gudeok Sport Complex big events were held in Chungmu-dong Square. Since the end of 1952, Daejeong Park disappeared without any trace as Chungmu Elementary School and Shopping district were established in the square.
